We’re not evacuating Nigerians yet,’ Ambassador to SA says

The Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa has said that the country will not be evacuating its citizens from the country yet despite the continued attacks against foreigners.
Acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Martin Cobham, added that it was too early to consider the option of evacuation.
Cobham also said that reports on social media are making the situation seem worse than it really is.
“I will not want to subscribe to an immediate evacuation. We want to look at this thing on three phases – the lower threat, middle threat and the higher threat. We can only tell our people; for now, abide by the hosts laws, avoid areas of imminent clashes and violence and work in concert with local authorities to ensure that peace reign,” Cobham said.
“Some of these photographs and videos were occurrences that happened in the DRC or even Rwanda and they are now replicated to foment trouble, linking it to xenophobia,” he said speaking on the social media reports.
South African nationals have continued xenophobic attacks against foreigners after blaming them for lack of employment and increased crime.

According to Punch Newspaper, the cult group reportedly led by a final year student of the Education Department in the school, had at several times, invited the girl who is said to be the daughter of one of the lecturers in the school and a first year student of the Economics Department, to join them but she always refused such invitations due to her strict Christian background and faith.
Angry at her refusal to be a part of the group, they allegedly attacked her at Hostel “F” of the institution and injected her with a strange substance after subjecting her to severe torture.
A close friend of victim said the victim was attacked at about 4am last Tuesday in her hostel room.
"She was tied to a chair and severely beaten by four girls. Her hair attachment was forceful removed and she was injected with substances that made her behave in a crazy manner for days.
When the attackers saw that the girl had fainted, they brought her out of the room in the early hours of morning, and they were apprehended."
The Students’ Senate Disciplinary Committee is said to have begun investigations into the matter with a view to bringing the culprits to book.
